Welcome to the first Black book hitz where we will feature masterpieces, single hits and throwies from different writers all over the world.
Today we will be showing a single hit from a very close friend of the MRC crew and true NYC style writing pioneer RIFF 170. RIFF 170 first started writing in 1971 when he was just 11 years old.
Shortly after this RIFF 170 was creating some of the best masterpieces and concepts in NYC. He was an early member of UGA (United Graffiti Artists) but quickly left the group shortly after to continue writing on the trains.
Some of the earliest jam flyers for DJ KOOL HERC and COKE-LA-ROCK were done by RIFF 170 in the mid 1970’s before P.H.A.S.E 2 and Buddy Esquire the flyer kings. RIFF 170 is known for writing many different aliases on the trains such as WORM 161, KOREA, MR. 6, AS 2 and CASH 2 just to name a few.
RIFF hit my black book on one of my first trips to NYC to meet and hang out with him. He was the first real heavy hitter from NYC to hit up my black book. He blessed me with his first single hit style that he was doing in the 70’s when he started writing RIFF 170.
Purchase exclusive Riff 170 slaps available now in our shop.
I’ll always be thankful to P.H.A.S.E 2 for this friendship as he was the one who connected us together.
That’s it for the first ever Black book hitz but there will be many more to come in the future. Till the next one everyone get up and stay up! By @torontowill.mrc
