Japan’s Mosaic 404 keeps it thorough on HELLO SP1200, released June 25, 2026.

Based in Okinawa, Mosaic 404 has been releasing instrumental projects for a while, staying true to the classic SP-1200 sound. The opener, “my nu gear…,” sets the tone with crunchy drums and chopped-up samples.

Tracks like “Whassup now MF,” “D.O.N.T.A.K,” and “Grim Reaper” are more hard-hitting and would sound right at home under an emcee. On “Whassup now MF,” Mosaic 404 chops up vintage Kool G Rap vocals, and throughout the tape he sprinkles in nostalgic vocal snippets that add even more character without taking away from the beats.

“Italy,” “Tenderloin,” and “Vantablack Starr” are all dope joints to vibe to while you’re scrolling online, studying, or digging through some crates type ish.

The title track, “1200,” is a tribute to the legendary sampler that shaped the project. Overall, it’s a strong collection of beats built with classic hardware by a producer who knows how to make the most of it.

If you’re into dusty boom bap, SP-1200 production, and instrumental hip hop, this one is worth checking out. Check out his other releases on Bandcamp.
