How did you start out in the business?

I started writing raps when I was 13 years old in 1996. But I didn’t officially get started in the business until 2002 when I started DBBS Entertainment. I owned a recording studio, a nightclub, had a record label and promoted concerts. My initial plan was to invest in my homies and let them handle the business side of things. I’ll be more of a financial support guy. But the business wasn’t really ran right, so I had to get involved to protect my investment. One thing led to another, and I’m still at it 17 years later.

Can you tell us about DBBS Management what’s your role there?

I own DBBS Management & GMSH Live. DBBS Management is really an artist services company I started about 9 years ago. With me promoting tours since 2005, I dealt with a bunch of artists who needed things. Once I started the GMSH (Get Money Stop Hatin) Tour in 2009, that was the 1st tour I did with exclusively independent aritsts. People would ask me to do all these things for them and eventually I started charging for my time. It’s evolved over the years into what it is now. A lof of the things we do, people could do themselves. But they trust our experience and expertise. Peope can make their own hamburgers too, but these fast food spots make billions every year. Over the years I’ve tried to provide a supply anywhere I see a demand.

Any new music, shows or projects your working on?

I have a single collab out called “Just a Man” with an artists named Seth James Hutchungson available on itunes, Apple and Spotify. I wrote and rap on the track and we plan on releasing the video later this year. I’ve been focused more on the business side. But I’ve been getting that itch to make new music pretty bad. The next thing we’re working on is the 3rd volume of the GMSH Compilation series. Then I’ll do something solo. My target release date is next spring. Just gotta find the time to spend on it. My days are so busy with other things, it’s getting harder but I’ll figure it out after this tour is over.

If I wanted to bring one of your showcases to my city what is the procedure to follow? Who can perform??

Everything is negotiable. The only thing I’ll need is enough time to execute whatever plan we come up with. I usually need at least 8-12 weeks to plan an event. But my line is always open and I’m always ready to work with anyone serious about their business.

Favorite classic hip hop dj/rapper group?

My favorite rapper of all time is Tupac. My 2nd favorite rapper is T.I.. Honestly, T.I. and Nipsey are the only industry rappers that I still listen to.

Last song you had on repeat??

Last song I had on repeat was probably “Solo Cup” by AP Appleberry. Or “Won’t He Do It” by Koryn Hawthorn.

Advice for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Trust God. Keep your word. Work hard. Those principles will apply to anything.

Last words or shouts?

I have nothing but Love in my heart for everybody. I don’t hold grudges. I don’t have any ill will toward anybody. We in the loving business. I’m @JessJJones on all social media. I’m looking for quality people to work with. I’m building a super team. Get at Me!
