Producer, beat-maker and instrumentalist Nasty Chopz Beats makes fire bangers. We really dig his style so we hit em up for the interview and he was cool enough to get back. N.C.B. explains how he moved from Germany as a youth, growing up in Hawaii.. to producing tracks for Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson and more.

Peace Nasty Chopz Beats where’s home?

Peace fam!! I was born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany until I was 10 years old. My dad won a green card playing lotto, sold everything and took my family to Maui, HI. where I grew up. So I feel at home whenever I’m at either place. The last couple of years I’ve been living all around Portland, OR which is my new home now. I feel like I can claim all three of these places as my home.

How long have you been producing beats?

I’ve been making beats since clicking in drum lines on my father’s computer with Fruity Loops in 2006. A bit later I got an outboard sampler and I’ve had the bug since then.

How do you discover new sounds??

I dig a lot. I shop for records whenever I can. I use the internet as well to download what I can find. But using the internet it’s hard to find the quality you want, or need. I want to say that I use at least 25% of my music time for digging to put it into perspective. I also find songs I want to sample on You-tube and order the vinyl off the internet if I can find it at an affordable price. I’m also always chopping drums wherever I can find them.. even old hip-hop CDs… everything is game for drums.

Who are some of dope underground emcees we should know about you’ve worked with?

Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, and more – I’m currently working on an EP that I’m planing on releasing by myself at the end of the year.

How is the hip hop scene in your city?

Portland has a live hip-hop scene. There are some dope DJ’s are out here and we have some great record shops. Heidelberg, where I was born, has a big hip-hop history as well!

Have any major labels or signed artists looked you up or purchased any of your work??

Maybe one day…

What artist would we be surprised to find on your personal playlist?

A lot. Most people assume I listen to something along the lines of what I make. But I mostly listen to trap and German hip-hop.

How does one get in touch with you to buy beats?

nastychopzbeats@gmail.com

What’s the last thing you purchased online?

Lol, I wanted to say Bitcoin but I just bought an uploaded account this morning.

Last words or shout outs?

I appreciate everyone that tunes in, listens to my beats and supports me. Big Up to MRCNNLIVE for the support!!
