The Syncreport.com is a website service that offers up-to-date reports on music supervisors and advertising agency contacts, who license indie songs for commercials, television shows, films and video games ect. It is also an informative online school where you can learn the who, what, when, where, and why of the music licensing business.

Hello Daniela, thanks for taking time out for our readers, where are you from?

I’m originally from Sydney and now based in Brisbane, Australia.

What is theSYNCreport?

theSYNCreport is an online platform that provides real-time reports on who’s looking after the sync licensing on hundreds of TV Shows, Films, Commercials, Trailers and Video Games. It’s also a mini university on everything to do with how to get your songs licensed.

How did you start in this business?

I started as an intern with Hook Line and SYNC after studying Music Technology at the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane Australia, and become a Company Director/Partner in 2010.

What encourages you and discourages you about TV and film placement?

What encourages me is that when under-the- radar songs get synced they can be a huge boost for the artist’s profile on an international scale.  We have seen artists sell thousands of digital downloads after a sync placement.

The promotional platform a sync placement can provide is massive. They get paid, get new fans, garner media support and can get more sync placements.  They can have a snowball effect.

The downside is that it’s very competitive. The key is to know what you are doing before you start trying to pitch your songs. It really is about having great songs and knowing who to present them too – good timing plays a huge a role in this business.

Do you have relationships with some of the contacts how accurate is the information?

Yes, I know a great deal of the music supervisors around the world from my work with Hook Line and SYNC. To keep music supervisor contacts as accurate as possible we update daily. Things are always changing so it’s imperative to update on an ongoing basis.

Is there any specific genre of music theSYNCreport is good for?

theSYNCreport is for music creators of all genres. In fact, the more obscure and niche genres are the better. For example, if you an artist that specializes in producing hybrid hip hop such as Grime you automatically have a point of difference when pitching your music.

The music supervisor will know where to come when they need GRIME. You can be producing anything, be it EDM, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz or Blues there are always scenes in productions that need different types of genres.

Some of the report’s success stories? Artist placements?

We have many success stories for artists, producers, artist managers and catalog managers. The best bet is to check out the site to read testimonials. We find that producers or artists that subscribe to theSYNCreport get a lot out of the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ area.

After they are skilled up they have a clearer understanding of the industry and how it ticks. Some people have landed sync deals straight away and others have started solid relationships, which will eventually lead to sync placements.

Can someone overseas use the report? What are some of areas covered?

theSYNCreport is for anyone in the entire world who is producing music or managing artists/catalog’s. We provide contact and production information for USA, UK, Canada and Australia territories.

What’s the best advice in your opinion you can give someone wanting to get their music placed?

I’ve always recommended that they get their music into a few good non-exclusive catalogs and build relationships direct with music supervisors and ad agency producers. It’s important to be always moving forward in this business and parking your songs in non-exclusive catalogs is fine but it’s imperative that you also have your own agenda.

Do the homework and get your music out to people who can license them. People who are serious about getting their songs licensed need to SKILL UP. We have a FREE DIY Sync licensing course that is a mini 5day email course.

Understanding the ins and outs of sync licensing will help you immensely before you start reaching out to people. For those who are interested they can sign up free here.
