In this exclusive interview Canton Becker curator and founder of SampleSwap.Org took time out to give us a brief run down about this cool sampling site he maintains..

Q. MRCPROMO: What is SampleSwap?
A. CANTON: SampleSwap is a lovingly maintained collection of audio samples and loops that I’ve been carefully curating since 1999. All of its sounds can be explored and downloaded for free. The site is entirely supported by donations.

Q. MRCPROMO: Are you also a musician?
A. CANTON: I’ve been an electronic musician since the 80’s. You can hear my work at here. I’ve always loved sampling, but I’m very particular about the sounds that I like. As the curator for SampleSwap, out of every 1,000MB of sounds that are uploaded by members, only 5-10MB are actually folded back into the collection. Each sound is carefully reviewed, trimmed, normalized, renamed, etc.

A. CANTON: SampleSwap caters to all forms of electronic music, from ambient to EDM to hard core techno…

Q. MRCPROMO: Name some sample files for download?
A. CANTON: SampleSwap offers 7.7GB of free sounds including 2,566 techno, hiphop, rap, trance, and drum and bass drum beats / loops, 1,379 drum hits, 113 drum kits, 2,306 sound FX, 1,585 instrument sounds, 1,013 vocal samples and acapellas, 1,387 melodic and electronic loops and more…

It is also home to a significant library of royalty free music for use in videos, games, etc.

Q. MRCPROMO: Do you know of any one famous using the library?
A. CANTON: When listening to the radio, I regularly hear samples from SampleSwap used in popular songs. However the actual members of SampleSwap (over 250,000 strong) guard their identities carefully.
