Soultronica Producer Ark Patrol

Today we introduce a talented music producer whom you may not be familiar with. We heard his work on Youtube. Some videos of his original tracks and collab features have hundreds of thousands of plays. We wanted to find out more and get the scoop on who was behind this incredible production.. introducing Ark Patrol..

Q. MRCPROMO: Peace Ark Patrol where you from?
A. ARKPATROL: I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Grew up on the Big Island until 18..

Q. MRCPROMO: How did you get your start at making music?
A. ARKPATROL: I started playing keyboard when I was around 5 or so.. picked up guitar a few years later, then joined the high school jazz band around 16 as a pianist. It wasn’t until the end of high school that I bought a Macbook and started messing around with electronic music.

Q. MRCPROMO: How long have you been producing?
A. ARKPATROL: Almost 4 years now..

Q. MRCPROMO: What would you call your style of music?
A. ARKPATROL: It ranges from instrumental hip-hop to electronic chill-wave house (or “soultronica” as a guy from the label called it) to bangers. I’m not always sure what genre.

Q. MRCPROMO: What is your studio set-up like? Your favorite piece of gear?
A. ARKPATROL: I have the computer I assembled, as well as a pair of JBL studio monitors and an Akai MPK Mini. The mini is my favorite piece of gear. It’s my only piece of gear.

Q. MRCPROMO: Your musical influences?
A. ARKPATROL: Toro Y Moi, Gorillaz, Little Dragon, Flume, Flying Lotus, Radiohead, Portishead, Disclosure and XXYYXX. All older stuff I suppose..

Q. MRCPROMO: What projects are you working on now?
A. ARKPATROL: I’m putting together a beat-driven EP that should be coming out soon. Also in the process of “researching” for new sounds, the next sounds. Further down the road, the plan is to begin releasing singles and develop a nice rhythm..

Q. MRCPROMO: Any tours, how can promoters or other artists get in contact with you?

Q. MRCPROMO: Where do you see yourself in the next year or so?
A. ARKPATROL: Oh lord.. hopefully with a better sound, with all my releases this year having been quality and having down my best at them.
