Skatta ‘Homage’ Prod. by J-Fresh feat. Clipson, Kriptik & LDizz

Uniting the new skool with the old skool, Coventry’s finest MC Skatta pays respect to the whole grime scene on his latest single ‘Homage’.

Coventry’s rising star has seen serious support from the likes of Trench Mag and Mixtape Madness, with ‘Homage’ already receiving multiple plays on Rinse FM, Pyro Radio and Nicce Studio.

It’s a stacked link-up between Coventry, Sheffield, Nottingham, London and Southampton. Skatta enlists Clipson, LDizz and Kriptik to shell down the mic, with J-Fresh handling production. The range of young MCs like Skatta himself and old heads like Slew Dem’s Clipson makes for a real journey along grime’s timeline.

‘Homage’ is lifted from ‘Hardships’, Skatta’s second EP of 2020 following a knock-out performance on Fight Night Flows. Now, thanks to Deevelopmedia, ‘Homage’ has an accompanying lyric video so you can catch all of the boys’ bars. The visuals take the form of a retro arcade game, maintaining the track’s nostalgic flavour. Less Street Fighter, more Beat Fighter.

It balances braggadocious bars with humble lines that pay respect to the scene’s forefathers.

Within the whole Hardships EP, most of Skatta’s tunes have a more conscious edge, making ‘Homage’ stand out as a thrilling and greezy contrast. The tune would feel at home on any classic grime tape. Skatta looks backwards in order to go forwards, leaving a new legacy in his wake.

His EP Hardships features additional vocal input from Tarju Le’Sano, Lawless and Mac James. Production comes courtesy of transatlantic range of producers OH91, Trap Jesus, DJ KDubz, Juberlee and Swat Team Beats.
