Vinyl culture keeps finding new ways to flip the script. From dusty basement crates to collectible color variants, physical music never really left the building. Now there’s a new format catching eyes..Tiny Vinyl, a pocket-sized 4-inch playable record built for collectors, music nerds, and heads who still love owning music in a physical form.

For the hip hop heads over here at MRC, one release immediately jumps out the speakers: Notorious BIG with “Big Poppa” on the A Side and “Hypnotize” on the B Side. Other notable titles are Kid Cudi Tiny Vinyl Edition – Day ‘N’ Nite /Pursuit Of Happiness (Nightmare) which Target says it sold over 400 plus records last month.

Seeing rap classics pressed in miniature form definitely opens the door for more hip hop drops in the future. Maybe Tiny Vinyl starts digging deeper into the culture with more underground releases, golden era classics, or indie rap exclusives. We’ll have to see where this little record movement spins next.

Tiny Vinyl was recently honored as one of Fast Company’s 2026 Most Innovative Companies in music. The outlet praised the company, saying, “Tiny Vinyl is a win-win for artists and consumers alike; the former has a new way to share physical media, and the latter gets an affordable, user-friendly memento.”

Tiny Vinyl Co-Founders, Neil Kohler and Jesse Mann, saw two trends overlapping.. the resurgence of vinyl and a trend toward miniature collectibles.

Kohler and Mann believed fans and the industry would connect with a new pocket-sized take on the ever-popular vinyl format. They then partnered with Nashville Record Pressing, an acclaimed vinyl manufacturer and Nashville-based subsidiary of GZ Media, the world’s largest manufacturer of vinyl records, to develop the format.

After releasing a handful of Tiny Vinyls with artists in Nashville, the Tiny Vinyl team realized they had a product with mass appeal. Each Tiny Vinyl is produced as a numbered, limited edition with the highest manufacturing standards – just like 12” vinyl.

Providing a more sustainable spin on vinyl, all Tiny Vinyl records are made from 100% bio-attributed vinyl while utilizing approximately 1/10th of the material versus a standard 12” vinyl to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and waste. With two tracks per disc, every Tiny Vinyl sold counts as two track sales—making them both collectible and chart-eligible with Billboard and the RIAA.

Over the past 20 years, vinyl sales have significantly grown and now top 50 million units per year in the United States alone (Sources: Billboard, RIAA, Luminate). With broad availability at Target and beyond in 2025, Tiny Vinyl is a dynamic addition to this trend, offering fans a new way to connect with their favorite artists.
